Cascade Trail Details
Cascade Trail is a hidden gem in Dupont State Recreational Forest. Tucked out of the way on the far side of Staton Road, it doesn't see a lot of use but make the effort to get there and it is a lot of fun. From Cascade Lake Road it starts out as a fairly rough doubletrack heading straight up hill. Lots of water bars and a few minutes of grunt-inducing climbing will bring you to a pretty clearing. Look across the field and you will see the trail continuing as singletrack into the woods on the southeast corner of the field. From the field it is not far to the highest point on the trail. From here is is a nice downhill jaunt to Sheep Mountain Trail. If you feel like continuing on singletrack instead of the gravel road of Sheep Mountain Trail, take a left and almost immediately you'll come to Pine Tree Trail. This singletrack beauty will take you all the way back to the intersection of Cascade Lake Road and Staton Road.
Rated 'moderate', the trail offers not much more than elevation change as a challenge. The trail is a bit rough in very few places but nothing approaching difficult. Beginning bikers need to have good speed control and know how to use their brakes effectively for the downhill sections, especially the doubletrack from the field down to Cascade Lake Road.
