Starting from Crescent Lake trailhead, the Crescent Lake trail starts out in dense forest, rising steadily through a few switchbacks. As the initial climb tops out, the trail traverses across the toe of a slope and continues along a side hill with a deep valley below.

The steepness of the slope alternates between long mellow and short punchy sections. There are also a few segments where the trail tip toes along narrow singletrack below some rock walls. It's very scenic through here - just watch the trail ahead.

The route then crosses an avalanche field (sometimes covered in snow) and continues to climb a bit more before crossing a bridge to the oppposite side of the creek. From here the climb ramps up a bit until you reach the Crescent Lake valley. It's mostly open through here with a few cool sections of flagged pine trees. As the trail levels out, the views get really big.

From here to the lake, the route rolls gently downhill across a moraine to a bridge at the bottom of the lake.

Rode out to the cabin and back on 7/3. Trail in great shape. I'm a reasonably new mountain biker and it isn't too technically challenging, but I'll admit to walking a little bit. The only notable distance was about 1/4 mile where the trail is narrow along a steep hillside above the creek (noted in the description) and is sort of cambered down toward the creek. I rode most of it on the way out but it's downhill that direction. Climbing it on the way back I was a little wobbly and was too sketched out to ride. My buddy, who's really good, went off the trail and only a tree stopped him from going down to the creek. So be careful through that section coming back. Also note that according to my Garmin Fenix 3 HR and my friend's Garmin Edge this is only about 1,250' of gain round trip and 13.2 miles. So the elevation gain listed here is too high and the distance too low.
