High Falls Trail Details
One of the most popular trails in Dupont State Recreational Forest, High Falls Trail is the main route from Triple Falls waterfall to High Falls waterfall and the Covered Bridge, three of the most visited areas in Dupont State Recreational Forest.
High Falls Trail is gravel road for most of its length and since the elevation change from the Triple Falls viewing area to the Covered Bride is pretty great, there are several fairly steep sections on High Falls Trail. For people that have problems walking up steep inclines, your perferred route would be to go directly to the Covered Bridge using either the new section of High Falls Trail or Buck Forest Trail. From there take Covered Bridge Trail to High Falls Trail, right on High Falls Trail down to the viewing area for High Falls, then on down to Triple Falls. Take Triple Falls Trail back to the High Falls Access Area. Triple Falls Trail is still uphill, but it is a much more gradulal climb. (For those with knee problems that make going down steep slopes painful, just reverse this suggested route.)
A new extension to High Falls Trail has been completed that eliminates the walk down Buck Forest Road when going to the waterfalls. This is nice on hot days since the new trail extension is a wide gravel singletrack thru the cool shaded forest.
