Karapoti Gorge Details
This is the start of the epic Karapoti Classic and the more modest Karapoti Challenge. The trail is an old logging trail used in the late 1800's.
The surface is rough with lots of sharps rocks. Make you to bring a pump and check your tyre pressure.
In winter it is cold. Not much sunlight makes it in to the gorge during winter but a lot of water does. You are most likely to get wet any time you ride this trail but in winter should should bring some additional clothes.
Access to Karapoti Gorge is from Karapoti Road off Akatarawa road. Turn off SH2 at Brown Owl on to Akatarawa Road and drive until you find Karapoti Road on your left (past the cemetery).
