Kemp Spur Trail Details
The Kemp Spur skirts the southern end of Laguna Meadow. You will arrive at a junction with the Chico Spur (trail 2), but take the trail to the right, it is the continuation of the Kemp Spur, past a crumbling, concrete wall - probably to dam water for cattle to drink - until you see a trail veer left, through a gap in the barbed wire fence. Our only confidence in this trail came from the large amount of bike-tire tracks, since it doesn't really correspond with any trail on the map. This eventually merges with spur 7, a generic "Connection Spur" to "Water of the Woods Spur" (trail 1), which is one of the main trails back to the parking area.
Parking is at the initial visitors' kiosks near the southern entrance to the recreation area (Sunrise Highway mile marker 19) - familiar to sledders, and mountain bikers. This spot has trailheads to many of the hikes in and around Laguna Meadow.
