Start at the trailhead for the Mt Herman summit Trail 716, off of Mt Herman road. Put your bike in granny gear and leave it there for the next 15-20 minutes while you slog up some nice singletrack. After 0.1 miles fork left (right goes to MH Summit), pass a fire pit and climb up the drainage to a crest on the ridge. You'll know you've reached the top when you see a tee-pee type structure in the middle of the trail.
Go straight for 30m and hop up on a boulder to enjoy the views and catch your breath. Then go back to the teepee and crank north on the Mule trail as it contours the west side of the ridge for a little over a mile. Several spurs come off the trail, explore if you have energy, or stick to the main trail if you are still recovering from the climb.
Pass a few strange rock circles (you'll know what I mean when you see them) and stop your bike. Drop your seat and let at least 5psi out of your tires, then charge down the switchbacks to meet up with Limbaugh Canyon Trail. This decent alternates between amazing and insane thanks to our world famous decomposed granite (aka gravel).
