Old Hartley Road Details
This path is 10'-15' wide, flat, evenly-graded, and dressed with crushed rock. It is not singletrack built with mountain biking in mind, but it provides access to/from many excellent singletrack options!
From the Hartley Nature Center parking lot, follow the signs for the "Duluth Traverse" west. Stop for a peek at Hartley Pond on your right before following the signage to the left (south).
Roughly 500' from the train intersection near Hartley Pond, there are some unmarked trails on the west side of this trail that will lead you up to the top of the "rock knob", a bedrock outcrop that provides a beautiful panoramic view of the surroundings and a glimpse at Lake Superior.
Continuing south the path crosses a large lowland where there are several wide wetland-boardwalks.
Near the southern end, on the west, is the entrance to Root Canal.
Continuing to the southern terminus you end up in a residential neighborhood.
