The Southey Vines / Geelsloot Trail was initiated by the local cycling club, Wannabees Cycling Club. The idea was to create a free trail for the community to use on local municipal property. When the trail was created it was the first of it's kind in the Westren Cape where a club and the local council got together to create a facility. The WCC also maintains the trail and the relationship with residents and local council. The City (council) has been very supportive of the efforts and since the trail was built have kept the area clean and the grass cut. The trail has become a well known feature amongst local cyclists and young kids host cycling birthday parties on the trail.
