Wigwam Rim Details
This is a good training ride when there is still snow on the ground in Fernie. But it is nothing more than that. A grunt of a gravel road up onto Wigwam Flats, and then an approximate trail around the rim. Beautiful views down into the Canyon onto the confluence of the Elk and Wigwam Rivers. Lots of wildlife. This is a Nature Conservancy area, so no dogs at all. Closed in certain months for lambing. Once the trails dry out in Fernie you would have no real reason to ride out here.
Drive to Elko and take a left turn off the highway into Elko itself, immediately after passing the gas station on the right and then crossing a small highway bridge. Follow the road through Elko, that wiggles right then left and, as you leave the houses, right again - there is then a sharp left turn off the road onto a gravel road down to the river. Follow this, cross the bridge and the gravel road you are going to ride up starts immediately on the right on the other side of the bridge. Go round the yellow gate on your bike.
