Changes to Strava Activities Synced to Trailforks
You may have heard the news or seen changes to Trailforks this week. Because of changes to Strava's API policies, Trailforks is no longer able to make any activities synced from Strava public.
What You Need To Know
Our team has pulled together all the information you need to know and these are three of the most important changes to be aware of:
• All Strava activities you sync to Trailforks will be private and only viewable by you.
• By only syncing from Strava, you will lose access to many Trailforks features and benefits—find out more below.
• Your activity data from Strava will no longer be aggregated into statistics for local trail associations to use for advocacy, grant applications, and trail planning.
What You Can Do Next
For the best Trailforks experience, we recommend that you record your activities directly in the Trailforks app or connect another third-party service or device (like Garmin, Suunto, Wahoo, MapMyRide & more) to import your activities to your account. This will allow your activities to be public and also give you access to all of the features and benefits of Trailforks:
• Support the planning and advocacy work of trail associations by providing anonymous trail usage data
• Earn badges and participate in contests
• Be ranked on trail leaderboards
• Use the Summit Tracker
• Track gear usage with the Service Tracker
• Share your adventures with your followers on the Trailforks and Outside feeds
• Provide public data to the Trailforks community to improve maps, calculate popular routes, and help power Route Finder, activities layers, and heatmap features
• Provide last ridden trail status data to trail associations and generate trail checkins
• Appear on your friends’ region ridden counter map layer and friends’ leaderboards
• Allow your friends to view your activity details
• Access your shareable Year In Review
• Generate a profile map of where you've ridden
• Contribute to future Trailforks feature improvements
Helpful Resources
Record activities directly in the Trailforks app
Connect a Garmin device directly to Trailforks
Connect other devices or services directly
Bulk import past Garmin data to replace Ridelog Strava data
More Benefits to Recording in the Trailforks App
By recording your activities directly in the Trailforks app, you’ll get these additional features and benefits:
• Easier navigation—see where you’ve come from and where you’re going overlaid on the trail map
• Traildar proximity alerts as you approach custom waypoints
• The ability to share your live location with friends
What about the loss of data for the Product?
Trailforks is positioned to offset the loss of this data from Strava by leveraging our role as part of the Outside Network, which includes Gaia GPS and the recently acquired MapMyFitness apps. This approach will ensure a continuous flow of high-quality data for our members and our community.
In 2024 Trailforks made substantial investments to improve our apps’ native GPS recording and activity saving functionality. If you haven’t used the recording feature recently, you’ll notice a significant boost in reliability and functionality.
Our commitment to you: We are continually working on delivering the best applications for you. We are ramping up efforts around core functionality, ease of use, and ensuring you have the best trail applications to get outside.
How To Restore Your Activity Data on Trailforks
If you want to restore your activity data on Trailforks, so they can be made public and contribute to the Trailforks community, you can use one of these tools:
• Import & Replace From Garmin Account
• Import & Replace From Strava Archive
