MTB 101 Coaches Training
Clinic/Camp Details:

NOTE: You must register through the eventbrite link

The intent of these trainings are to show participants a great example of a NICA practice involving skills instruction and a NICA short course for student-athletes. Because we are hosting two events, we will be capping attendance for each event to 18 participants to ensure that coaches feel confident and comfortable teaching our students mountain biking skills. Remember, although you may learn some new skills from the event, the focus is not on enhancing your own mountain biking skills, but instead on how to teach the basic skills.

This training is ideal for new coaches and/or those that were not able to attend the Leaders’ Summit. I urge you to register early so that you can get a spot for your preferred date/location.
During the training you will not only have time to practice the skills as demonstrated, but you will also have the opportunity to practice teaching the skills while receiving feedback. This will allow you to see the teaching style of others as you develop your own.
We will have Ben Tufford on hand to teach the course. Ben is the owner and operator of Cognition Endurance Sports Training and is committed to helping the developing endurance athlete reach their goals quickly and efficiently, using sound principles and common sense training.

These trainings are completely on-the-bike and we will do everything we can to not cancel them so that everyone can start the season prepared and ready to go. In saying that, I would ask that you come prepared for the temperature and be ready to deal with all but the most challenging conditions. If the weather is such that we would be forced into the elements for long periods of time, we may consider looking at a rain date.
To help reduce cost of the events, lunch will not be provided. We ask that you bring your own lunch as you will not have time to run out to get lunch due to time constraints and location. Feel free to bring snacks you can have while on the bike throughout the day. For those that did not attend the Leaders’ Summit, you will be able to purchase the NICA Coach Manual and Teaching Mountain Bike Skills when you register.

If you did attend the Leaders’ Summit and want more on-the-bike training I would ask that you only consider registering if you are a HEAD COACH so that we can ensure new coaches have the opportunity to participate. Head Coaches can then return to their respective teams and provide an update to any other coaches who did attend the Leaders' Summit.
