Group Ride Details:

The Turkey Afterburner is back for 2019

SEMASS NEMBA is again holding the 2019 Turkey Afterburner on December 1, 2019 - the 1st Sunday after Thanksgiving. SEMASS NEMBA and Hale Reservation will host this event. There are miles and miles of smooth flowy singletrack and epic technical tails at Hale. There will be arrowed intermediate and family loops, self-guided Trailforks and Strava routes, led rides, a Tailgating Party with the SEMASS DJ, fire pits, grills, and more. You literally could plan to spend the entire day at the Reservation.

EVENT LOCATION
For 2019, we have changed the location to Hale Reservation in Dover Massachusetts. Hale’s Entrance is on Carby Street in Westwood, MA and registration is on Brune Way within the reservation but across the town line into Dover, MA (https://goo.gl/maps/3dyt3motgxETJBa49).

ARROWED TRAILS
Hale Reservation has some great flowy singletrack as well as some of the most challenging technical trails in the area. There will be a large map at Registration to help you get orientated. This map will have the arrowed routes as well as some of the connector trails to other parks. To get a good view of the reservation’s trails, go to https://www.trailforks.com/region/hale-reservation/.
For the adventurous, at key intersections on the main loop, there will be signs to some of the more popular areas such as Satan’s Kingdom and Rocky Woods.

SEMASS will arrow two routes:
• Main Loop: 8 miles of mostly fun singletrack that circumnavigates Hale Reservation. These trails stay within the loosely defined intermediate rating. This loop will go by many of the more difficult trails for easy A-line extensions.
• Family Loop: 3 miles on mountain bike trails that the whole family can enjoy. This is an easy loop on real mountain bike trails with climbs, descents, small bridges and rock gardens. A true mountain biking experience for the whole family to enjoy.

GROUP RIDES
In addition to the two arrowed loops, SEMASS will have group rides going out between 9:30AM and 10:30AM from the Registration area to some of the more challenging areas in or near Hale Reservation. Three rides forming up already include:
• Thom Parsons Advanced Techy ride to Needham Town Forest and back starting at 10AM
• Women’s group social ride on the arrowed loop starting at 10AM
• Tom McKenna’s Advanced Techy Social Ride to Satan’s Kingdom and back at 9:30AM.
Keep checking for updates.

SELF-GUIDED RIDES
Want to go on your own? Self-guided routes will be available on Trailforks and the Strava Club “SE Mass NEMBA”. We will have gpx files available as well as routes far and wide for the event.

REGISTRATION
Registration will take place near the Powissett Lodge within Hale Reservation. Event ambassadors and signage will guide you to registration when you arrive. A suggested, but not mandatory, donation to SEMASS NEMBA of $10 per adult rider (kids are free) will be very helpful to cover our costs and support our parks. We will consider riders who join or renew memberships at the event to have sufficiently made their donation for the day. Cash only please.

DEMO BIKES
Bikebarn Racing will have their fleet of Santa Cruz and Specialized demo bikes available from 8AM to 2PM for riders at the Registration area for 30 – 45 minute rides around the reservation. A signed demo loop will be available. Last bike out at 1pm.

TAILGATE PARTY
From 12 noon to 2PM come to the Registration area and hang out with your friends. Music will be provided by our own SEMASS DJ. Multiple firepits will be lit. Bathrooms and warming hut are available at the Hale Reservation Lodge. Grills will be available for you to use. Bring your lawn chair, cooler, dogs and burgers and recharge at our SEMASS Tailgate Party. This will be a great post-ride opportunity to share your epic mountain biking experiences and hang out with your friends. Please tailgate responsibly but have a blast doing it.

ALTERNATE DATE
The alternate date of Saturday, November 30th is no longer available. This event will happen Dec 1 or not at all.
