Race Details:

Round 2 of the VIHSS.

A hare scramble is a form of off-road motorcycle racing where riders complete multiple laps around a marked course through wooded trails. This is racing that incorporates speed, endurance, and technical ability to ride a dirtbike and negotiate obstacles all come into play.

The terrain can be fairly rugged, especially here on the island, as there will be natural terrain features incorporated into the race course which will be primarily west-coast forest single-track. In some cases, depending on the venue, we will include sections of an existing motocross track or endurocross course.

Racing, in a nutshell

One lap can range from roughly 10km to 25km (give or take, depending on the area). Multiple laps are generally required. The winner of each class is determined by who completes the most laps within a predetermined amount of time.

Generally, “B” level riders (less advanced riders) are given a cut-off time of 1.5 – 2 hours and “A” level riders (more advanced) will have a longer cut-off time of 2 – 3 hours.

Depending on the event, the “A” riders may also have a more difficult course to ride, or there may be “A/B splits” in the course to add difficulty for the “A” riders or eliminate a more difficult section for the “B” riders.
