Race Details:

Presented By: Green Mountain Bicycle Club (SCROLL DOWN to Event Notes for more information)

Welcome to the Green Mountain Bicycle Club. Founded in the winter of 1970/71, it is the oldest bicycle club in Vermont, and among the oldest in the country. Its USA Cycling ID is 40.

The mission of GMBC is to promote helmet usage, safe and courteous riding practices (i.e. stopping at stop signs & lights), sharing the road, and it encourages the usage of front and rear flashers. Your ride will be a safer one when drivers can see you.

The club offers events throughout the year to keep your legs moving:

Weekly recreational, training rides, and time trials (starting in May).
Practice criteriums (usually six per season).
Winter spin series in the colder months.

Why Join?

You are supporting an organization that is trying to make a difference in the community and state:

GMBC is a supporting club of Local Motion (it has worked with LM on bicycle advocacy and education initiatives, too).
Raised over $2,000 for restoration of the Island Line Trail after it was damaged by record flooding of Lake Champlain.
Aided a citizen advocate in his attempt to have an enhancement made to the Safe Passing guidance.
Helped with inclusion of text in the VT Driver's Manual on how to pass bicyclists.
Made suggestions on rewording of state statutes related to bicyclists.
Was invited to and took part in a VTrans initiative to improve state roads for bicycle travel.
