Afan Forest Park Mountain Biking Trails

Great welsh trail center. Split into 3 riding areas that are connected by quick links along the river valley or in the case of the the W2 loop across the wind farm service road at the top of the hill. Most of the riding here, both up and down, is on single track trails instead of fire roads. Great flow on a lot of the trails with a few tech sections thrown in to keep you on your toes.

There are 4 main red/black loops, Penhydd, Y Wal, Whites Level and Blade (ranked easiest to hardest) as well as a 4x/skills park and some blue and green trails. The W2 trail is a combination of Y Wal and Whites Level linked via the wind farm service road. Whites Level and Blade start at the same trailhead and share the starting climb, which is a fantastic single track climbing challenge. The black Blade loop can be extended via the Skyline addition, however this adds a considerable amount of fire road versus single track in its current state.

Afan offers plenty of trails to cover those looking for a place to ride for a few days. There is good variety in the trails and the nice links between them make it easy to customise your own loops.

Glyncorrwg is the suggested base for day trippers due to the amenities and trails available there. For overnight stays, anywhere that fits your budget works as it is easy to get around once you are there by either bike or car. For new riders who are less confident, start at the Afan Forest Visitors Park with access to green and blue runs that can be used to build up to the red Penhydd trail there.
