      Arquata del Tronto è un piccolo comune in provincia di Ascoli Piceno racchiuso all’interno di ben due aree protette, il parco nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga a sud e il parco nazionale dei Monti Sibillini a nord. La zona è prevalentemente montuosa con un meraviglioso paesaggio che varia tra pareti scoscese e fitti boschi di castagno, faggio e conifere, e ancora, ampie balconate naturali, campi e aree da pascolo; dalle cime più alte si riesce a scorgere il massiccio del Gran Sasso e il mar Adriatico.

      Molti i luoghi d’interesse legati ad una storia antica e ad una tradizione rispettata ancora oggi, come la chiesa della Santissima Annunziata dalla semplice facciata impreziosita dal un importante portale scolpito in pietra arenaria, anche se di dimensioni ridotte al suo interno, costituito da un unico ambiente, si trovano altari lignei, la cantoria e una tela raffigurante l’Annunciazione del XVI secolo. Nella chiesa di San Francesco, in stile romanico con un portale cinquecentesco, si trova custodita la “Sindone di Arquata”, copia della Sacra Sindone di Torino, fedele riproduzione del sacro lino che reca l’immagine di Gesù, flagellato e crocifisso.

      Simbolo di Arquata del Tronto è la Rocca, fortezza costruita tra il XIII e il XIV sec. con pietra arenaria locale che domina dall’alto il paese e l’intero paesaggio, mentre la Porta Sant’Agata è l’unico varco del piccolo borgo medievale giunto fino a noi.
