SaveLocated on the banks of the Ural River where it meets the Caspian Sea in the north. Atyrau also has the distinction of being where geographic Asia and Europe meet at the river. The terrain surrounding Atyrau is mostly flat and featureless. The south is dominated by swampy reed beds of the Ural, the west has vast areas of mud, dust and sand. The north has some hints of terrain and grassy areas. The east is cross-cut by canals and open terrain.
The winter bring the option of riding the river and feeder canals and tributaries when they ice over. care must be taken to avoid thin ice near heat outflow and currents thinning the ice near shore.
The primary club active in the area is Atyrau Outdoors. Made up mostly of expatriate oil workers, local riders and the odd visitor.
