In a tranquil country setting, the rambling 728-acre Barnett Ranch Preserve is located in central San Diego County, in the Ramona Community Planning Area. San Diego County acquired the Preserve in 2002 to be dedicated as part of the County of San Diego’s Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP).
Ideal for nature lovers, the preserve is host to a myriad of natural diverse ecosystems consisting of southern coast live oak riparian forest, southern willow scrub, freshwater seep, riparian scrub, open water, open Engelmann oak woodland, coast live oak woodland, wildflower fields, Diegan coastal sage scrub, coastal sage-chaparral scrub, southern mixed chaparral, and some non-native grassland.
Birdwatchers, welcome These communities support several sensitive species including southern California rufous-crowned sparrow, loggerhead shrike, white-tailed kite, and orange-throated whiptail.
4 miles of multi-use trails include a 2.5-mile loop for walking, running, biking and horseback-riding. Picnic tables and rest areas add to a relaxing day in nature. The park also features viewpoints, a staging area and restrooms.
