Berthoud Pass is home to an old ski area that closed down in 2002. It is a very popular and relatively safe backcountry ski area with a warming hut and bathrooms at the base. The main areas of Berthoud Pass are the East Face, Hells Half Acre, West Face, and Current Creek. Although this area is relatively safe there are still slopes steep enough to avalanche.
