SaveCoal Bank and Molas Pass covered all trails in the 550 corridor from the bottom of Coal Bank to the bottom of Molas Pass. These trails are high elevation backcountry singletrack trails and typically open from July through September annually.
Most rides start on Pass Creek or CT - Twin Sisters and multiple ride options exist from this. Most people will shuttle these options parking at the top of Coal Bank or Molas Pass.
For descents the easiest and most popular descent is Engineer Mountain. A flowing gorgeous ride with flowers throughout most of the summer and striking views. Coal Creek, Engine Creek, Graysill and Deer Creek all provide a more difficult trail experience. For a rolling backcountry ride, CT - Twin Sisters provides outstanding views and excellent singletrack on the Colorado Trail.
Many of these trails are slow to be cleared of deadfall which occurs every winter. Until Pass Creek is clear of snow it is best to stay off these trails. This typically occurs mid July depending on the year.
As with most high country trails during monsoon season, be aware of lightning. Most of these trails are above treeline and cover may not be possible in places. Also these are very much backcountry trails where help may be longer away then you expect so plan accordingly.
