old school XC. SUPER tech, likely will break your bike but worth the challenge if you are up for it

Huge open area split between Gloucester and Rockport. Home of early Gloucester settlement focused on timber before everyone moved to the shoes to focus on fishing. Old cellar holes, Babson Boulders, and large glacial erratics dot the woods. Ownership and management of the area has always been somewhat informal - Cape Ann Trail Stewards and Friends of Dogtown are two groups invested in the area and they try to take care of it. But it's big, and lots of people do whatever they feel like doing in here - motorsports, dumping, homeless camps - so it's a mixed bag.

Trails were not built with mtb in mind, so be ready for rock city on most trails.
