SaveSince 2001, Inland Empire Paper Company has been providing recreational use of their managed timberlands to the general public on a user driven fee basis. The Empire Trails are located on Inland Empire Paper property and require a daily non-motorized permit or a motorized daily or annual access permit.
Daily (non-motorized) Biking/Hiking Passes and Maps are available at the IEP Gate, Miller’s Harvest Foods, Bubble Boy Boutique, C’s Trains and Antiques, and Sondahl’s Pottery or where ever this sign is displayed.
Through a mutually beneficial partnership between IEP Company and Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce (Spirit Lake Trails Alliance) the Empire Trails were born. The goal was to create a mountain bike/hiking trail network that would safely remove bike traffic from busy main haul roads, while providing a wide variety of forest related recreation opportunities and maintain a safe operating environment for IEP employees and contractors engaged in the many aspects of managing a working forest. This collaboration has resulted in the development of the beginning phases of an amazing wilderness trail network that will eventually allow bike riders/hikers to safely travel from the City of Spirit Lake along the mountainside above the lake for a wonderful day of exercise, recreation and appreciation of the beauty that surrounds the trail.
