Haughmond Hill is a small area of mainly woodland with viewpoints overlooking Shrewsbury. Being at the end of a Cycle Path from Shrewsbury (part of NCN81) it is very accessible for those arriving by bike and has a large car park, with a café and toilets, at the start of the main easier trails. While walkers are the biggest users of the Hill, all manner of bike riders come for the easy trails as well as the Downhill Trails that are being developed here. While it will never achieve the following of the more popular areas nearby, Haughmond Hill retains a certain charm and a loyal local following. It must be pointed out that there is little here for the hardened 'downhiller' to bother with. But there is a good selection of trails for beginners and experienced riders but at a much lower standard than, say, Eastridge. The 'Blue' graded trails are little more than steeper trails with few, if any, features and all of those are rollable. All the trails can be ridden on sight with any features (TTF) fairly obvious. Perhaps the hardest part of the 'Red' trails are the narrow trail paths and the technical riding that can entail. During summer many of the trails become partly overgrown making them even narrower.
      Primary Trail Type: Cross-Country

Holly Coppice Car Park next to Haughmond Hill Quarry is the best starting point for visitors. Either Google 'Haughmond Hill' or use the postcode SY4 4RP which is that of the adjacent quarry. There is a £2.00 charge for all day parking or £1.00 for just 2 hours (Minibus is £4.00) but be aware the car park gate is locked around dusk, notices display the actual time.
This region uses the Uk/Euro style trail grading system.
