      Le Causse Noir se termine au sud par le promontoire d’Embarry (841 mètres) qui domine le confluent de nos deux rivières et la ville de Millau. Son sommet, appelé anciennement « la pouncho d’Agast » signifierait « la pointe de l’érable ».

      On a longtemps disserté sur l’origine de ce nom, Jules Artières en janvier 1910 donnait dans les colonnes du Messager de Millau une étymologie bien différente : « Que signifie cette dénomination d’Agast ? Il parait que ce mot celtique signifie : « sommet d’où l’on découvre au loin. Dans l’ancien haut allemand, watch signifie : veiller, épier ; d’où le bas latin gachare, le rouergat agacha et le français guetter. Cette étymologie, si elle est exacte, est parfaitement justifiée. »
