The Lake Trails are comprised of 3 different trail sections; Cemetery Loop, Lick Creek, and Polecat. Each trail is unique in its terrain, riding style, challenges, and features. If you mix-and-match these trails in both directions and several variations you can easily string together 10-15 miles of super fun, playful, and even challenging riding.

Cemetery Loop is a lollipop style loop with many connecting trails that allows for a bunch of various segments. You can access this loop by riding across the bridge located just at the parking area by the pump station. It is the most playful of the trails with fun flow, jumps, berms, and other features. It also has a bit of short, punchy elevation gain/descent.

Lick Creek Trail is an out and back trail (~1.2mi each way) that can be pinned from end to end, or slow it down to play on the growing number of trail features. It has ~10 berms between two sections that let you rail some corners, and a handful of progressive to impressive jumps. It also has a couple of challenging root sections that can test your skills on the way up, and tickle your pickle on the way down. This trail connects the parking area to the Chatham bike path, which allows you to access the Polecat Creek Trail segment.

Polecat Creek Trail is accessed by crossing Lick Creek to the Chatham bike path, turning right (head south) for about a 1/4 or so miles. You'll reach a information sign on your right with a sort of steep shoot that leads up to the trail entrance. Once at the trail you can ride this loop either direction. Head to the left(ish) and you will be greeted with some of the bigger/steeper climbs that Springfield has to offer with a couple of technical moves to get up over some logs and roots. Matched to these climbs are fast, punchy descents that can have some tight turns to navigate. If you choose to head to the right, the trail takes you on the outer/lower portion of the trail to start. This portion has some is mostly flat and fast with some fun flowing turns. This direction does have some climbs, but feels less challenging than the other direction.

DIRECTIONS: The Lake Trails are located on the West corner of Lake Springfield where the Lick Creek flows into the lake. The primary parking is at the pump station off of the original Route 66 which is now Old Chatham Rd (5700 Old Chatham Rd, Springfield, IL 62711).
