SaveLog Chutes trail system is a multi use trail system with trails that are fast, loose sandy dirt and loose rocky trails in ponderosa pines. Mountain bikers have the option of shuttling or pedalling a loop (typically CCW). This area is typically 10 degrees cooler than the town of Durango.
The most popular loop will start at either the Colorado Trail (Durango) Parking areas and climb the road to the Log Chutes Parking. From there riders will typically climb Log Chutes 1 to Log chutes 3 to the top. Some riders will choose to shuttle to the top of Log Chutes DH or if you want a longer drive to the top of Downhill. Also the road can be pedaled. For an additional XC loop, you can add on Westview Loop (CCW).
The Junction Creek road is typically closed from Dec 31 (weather dependent) through May 1 to Mile 10.9. From mile 10.9 on is open 6/1.
From the top of log chutes the "Downhill" trail is a straight fast baby head strung descent with some jumps for the extremely advanced riders. The Log Chutes DH is the typical downhill trail of most people. This is straight fast, typically rutted with big rocky areas. At the top there is an optional freeride line on Log Chutes Jumps. About mid way down you can choose to stay right on Log Chutes DH or left of DH alternate for a more advanced section. If you parked higher you can take Log Chutes 2 back to your vehicle.
While these trails seem DH oriented, they are considered multi use, and you will often encounter more hikers, especially towards the lower end of trails.
