SaveMaxwell Trail is a beautiful 5-mile intermediate loop weaving in and out of blackland prairie known as the Mary Gay Maxwell Tract. There are a few chunky sections, and the last mile includes a sweet downhill blast. There is a bypass trail to shorten the loop, and a few locations where educational signage has been posted regarding the landscape. There are two scenic overlook spots offering a phenomenal view of Austin.
- There is a single trail head, and a dedicated parking lot. The trail closes at dusk and there is an automatic gate that closes so it is possible to get locked in so plan accordingly.
- The trail is open to hikers, horseback, and cyclists. Cyclists go clockwise, hikers and horses counterclockwise.
- Dogs are not allowed.
- The property is water quality protection land and thus closes even after minor rainfall.
