SaveThe 77 acre Mortimer Wright Preserve was purchased by the Town of Groton in 1989. It abuts other Town land and connects trails in Haley Farm State Park to those in The Merritt Family Forest (GOSA) via the X-Town Trail. Deep open woodlands overlay an extensive glacial moraine of gravel and sand with Eccleston Brook flowing throughout and feeding several wetlands. The southern entrance is located at 360 Groton Long Point Rd (Route 215) and offers a wide, flat trail suitable for an easy hike. Trails which continue end at private property owner parcels. If you take the trail which branches to the left, you can go up through a rugged area on top of the moraine and eventually enter into The Merritt Family Forest.The Mortimer Wright Preserve is part of the X-Town Trail, a six mile trail that connects Bluff Point State Park to Towns End
