SaveThis trail system resides in the Lower Rouge River Recreation Area in Canton Township that
runs along this branch of the river from Canton Center road east to the I-275 Metro bike path.
There are 5+ miles of crushed limestone gravel pathways and in between is 6 miles of scenic
hiking and biking singletrack. There are four main sections: the South Loop which contains
the Buckshaver, Dragon's Tail and South wetland sections. East Loop which contains the
Jessie's Run section. The Crooked Vulture section which contains the CV extension section
The West Loop which contains the optional Lucky Dawg section and also offers a small
Pumptrack in the middle of the park. The terrain is relatively flat with some small hills, but
is tight, twisty and scenic with optional technical features and several wooden bridges
connecting the two sides of the river. By linking the non-directional sections together, a
rider/hiker could enjoy up to a 6- 10 mile ride/hike. Watch for the trailhead and section signs and follow the colored arrows to navigate the park.

Primary Trail Type: Cross-Country

Access Info:
Take the Michigan Avenue exit off of I-275 going west about 1.5 miles to Morton-Taylor road (between Lilley and Sheldon roads), go north for a short distance, look for the green LRRRA sign and turn left into the parking lot. Most of the trail can be accessed from Morton-Taylor road, the parking lot, or just North of the main pedestrian bridge #5. This trail system can be accessed from the I-275 Metro bike path on the east end or from Canton Center road just south of Palmer road on the west end (look for the yellow bollards & map). There are seasonal port-a-potties and a trail head kiosk in the main parking area. Nearby places for food/drink would be Canton Party Store, Leo's or L. George's Coney Island.
Disclaimer:
Note: Due to the nature of this river watershed area, it is subject to the whims of the river
and tends to be wet and muddy until mid-May/early June depending upon the weather.
It is a clay- based soil in many areas so if it's dry, it's great, if it's wet, not so much and try to
avoid riding it on those days.
