The trail system consists of 10 separate mixed-use trails completed in 2004, each offering a
different challenge and experience. The trails are in piñon-juniper woodland and open
meadow. Elevation ranges from 7,200 feet to 8,100 feet. Flat Top Mountain offers
views of Springerville/Eagar, the volcanic cinder cones, and the Little Colorado River.
Several historical sites, such as a cemetery and cabin ruins, are located along the trail.

This trail system is not actively maintained by the forest service and has some trails that are in bad shape.

There are 3 ways to access this network of trails. The primary trailhead is located just off of AZ Hwy 260/180 about 3.4 miles east of the stoplight in Eagar. The Saffel Canyon trailhead can be accessed via Water Canyon Road south of the Eagar stoplight about 4 miles. The 12th street trailhead is located at the east end of 12th street in Eagar. It does not have a trail head sign but there is a small parking area at the start of the trail.
