      Il Parco delle Groane è un’area protetta regionale che si estende per 7.700 ettari all’interno della grande metropoli nord milanese e fino a coprire parte della provincia di Como e Monza Brianza

      Tra case, palazzi e industrie sopravvivono, protetti, gli ultimi boschi di grandi querce e svettanti pini silvestri; vaste lande di brughiera si colorano dell’intensa fioritura della calluna a fine estate; vecchie rovine di fornaci segnano il paesaggio con il loro muri i mattoni; antiche ville patrizie segnano con i loro giardini il paesaggio di un tempo che fu. 


      Il Parco Regionale è stato istituito nel 1976 per forte volontà dei Comuni e della Regione Lombardia e, dal 1984, dispone di un Piano Territoriale che disciplina l’uso delle aree, in armonia fra conservazione della natura, agricoltura e turismo. Con Legge Regionale 29/04/2011 n. 7 è stata approvata la Legge istitutiva del Parco Naturale.
      Nel 2019, dopo l’approvazione del nuovo statuto da parte di Regione Lombardia, i confini si sono allargati fino a comprendere l’oramai ex Plis della Brughiera Briantea, la Riserva Naturale della Fontana del Guercio e altri territorio.
      Le riserve naturali che vi sono incluse rappresentano Siti di Interesse Comunitario.

      Il Parco delle Groane è gestito da un Ente di diritto pubblico fra i Comuni interessati, le Province di Milano, Como e Monza e Brianza e il Comune di Milano. Gli obiettivi dell’Ente riguardano in particolare l’acquisto di terreni del Parco, il rimboschimento delle aree nude, la miglioria dei boschi, la tutela della natura, l’educazione ambientale.

      In questo ambiente scampato all’urbanizzazione, l’Ente Parco Groane ha realizzato una rete di piste ciclabili di circa 50 Km, che consentono di immergersi nel verde, senza allontanarsi dalla città.
