SaveThe Potter Hill Trails traverse the Grafton Land Trust's, Potter Hill Meadows, G Knowlton Preserve and Rita Marten Preserve, as well as the Mass Fish and Wildlife's Martha Deering Wildlife Management Area.
This area incorporates a fun Harry Potter theme into the trail names and are varied in difficulty with a good mix of iconic singletrack, wider cart paths and some doubletrack - something for every skill level. While there are some rocky and rooty parts on the trails, these are not typical New England rocky and rooty trails and trend more towards flowy and fast.
The best singletrack trails in the network are Quidditch, Dumbledore, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Butterbeer is a great mixed trail with wide and open stretches near the top and bottom, and the mid section tighter and a bit more technical. While Butterbeer is great in both directions, it is a good easy climbing trail from Martha Deering back to the top at the Edwards Drive parking area.
The Potter Hill Trails are not manicured and in some places you will find some vegetation encroaching on the trails and all of the trails have seasonal leaf coverings. Despite this, however, most of the trails are in great shape and very ridable.
These trails have connections to the west with the Rayburn Trail Network and to the east with Williams Preserve CR (no mountain bikes) and the Gummere Wood / Marsters Preserve trails. Mountain bikes can access Gummere/Marsters via a short 100 meter hop on Brigham Hill Rd

Access Info:
The Potter Hill Trails can be accessed from various points. For hikers and horses any of the trail heads are good. For mountain bikers the best parking areas are the ones to the North of the ride area - see below.
1) The main Potter Hill Parking Area is on Potter Hill Rd, at the Southern end of the network. To access the trail network from this parking area, there are two choices: ride to the end of Potter Hill Rd and go past the barrier - this is Grafton Land Trust property that the neighbor mows for good access. Alternatively, you can turn right on the gravel service road just past the parking area, ride all the way down Potter Hill Meadow's Edge, at the bottom turn left, following the edge of the meadow. The entrance to Slytherin Trail is in the lower Western corner of the meadow.
2) The trailhead for Broomsticks Trail is on Rose Lane Circle and was cleaned up in 2019. Broomsticks is a fun singletrack and it opens up nicely. It connects with Butterbeer near the start of Hufflepuff.
3) The White Flower Parking at the bottom of White Flower Lane is at the Hogwarts Express trailhead. There is parking for up to five or six cars next to the service road or in the circle. From this parking area you can access Hogwarts Express through to Ravensclaw, which leads to the middle of Butterbeer.
4) The Bay Colony Circle Parking area offers on-street parking for about four cars. From here you can access the Rita Marten trailhead. The recommended bike route from here is to follow Rita Marten, about midway to Williams Preserve, turn right onto Hagrid's Meander, left on Hogwarts South through to Slytherin, down to Baselisk, right on Boomslang Skin and Euphoria and up to the top of Butterbeer from where you can ride Qudditch, Dumbledore Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. To get back to your car take a shortcut through Hogwarts Express and a short road ride up White Flower Lane to Bay Colony Circle.
