      Description
Isle du Bois, which means "Island of the Trees," was opened in 1993 and is located on the southeast corner of Lake Ray Roberts which is north of Denton. The trail was finally completed by Dorba volunteers in 2005 with the total length of the trail being under 12 miles. The terrain is rockier than most of Dorba's trails and Isle du Bois has several nice hills that have been incorporated into the trail which are strewn with rock gardens of varying technical difficulty. The most difficult sections of the trail are found on Loop D and there are two bypasses marked for those riders wishing to miss the worst of the rocky climbs. Loop E runs northeast from the park along the rocky lake shore and offers some great views of Ray Roberts while loop D highlights the lake vista from atop the rocky center ridge with lake views common during the leafless Winter months. Loop C has some speedy sections with short steep climbs sprinkled here and there. To ride the entire trail take every left intersection except for the two by-passes on Loop D, which are marked and going left there will cause you to miss the more technical rocky climbs. The trail is marked with emergency location posts (indicated by a red/white reflector stripe and a number). These numbers do not correlate to mileage. The emergency locations are indicated on the trail map that the Park Rangers/Emergency personnel have. If you have an emergency situation, you can tell the park/EMTs what number you last saw and they will be able to locate you more rapidly. There is a $7 per person entrance fee or State Park Pass is required for entry into the park. The trail is closed when wet so make sure to call the park office at 940-686-2148 for trail information. Follow the signs in the park to the "Dorba Trail" which will be the first large paved parking lot on your right as you approach the lake.
