SaveThe Upper Mountain trails lie above the beautiful city of Santa Fe in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Starting near the Forest Service boundary with Santa Fe and found along Hyde Park Road National Scenic Byway and Pacheco Canyon forest road, multiple trails can be accessed for those with strong lungs and legs.
Starting near 8,000' of elevation and capping above 11,000', these trails are typically ridden throughout the summer months after snowmelt and into later autumn. While hikers are frequent on some of the shorter, closer to town routes, most trails provide a scenic backcountry experience ideal for everyone from XC to All Mountain.
The most iconic trail, the Winsor, acts as the main connector for many routes including Borrego Trail, Bear Wallow, Chamisa, and Discount. Likewise, the most technical and remote trails in the region can be accessed from the Ski Basin, including the infamous Rio En Medio trail.
Bring plenty of water or a filter and be prepared for high altitude conditions including summer thunderstorms and dramatic weather changes.
