This is the mountains in the area around trujillo, in the north of Peru.
All trails are within 2 hours drive from trujillo. Public transport can get you to some trails, for others you may need to hire a cab, or fill up your camelback and pedal up. Some locals band together and go up in pickup trucks, some get together and jump on a bus, and others hire entire minibuses for the day. Anything is possible, you can take your bike on most transport, no problem, and I have hitchiked successfully a good few times.
Altitude wise, you can be as high as 3200, so it may take some getting used to.
There is a range of trails for a range of abilities, but nothing super smooth and groomed, as with most of Peru, the trails are natural, rough and subject to frequent change.
      ------------------------
