What an absolute wonderful urban oasis Stony Brook Reservation has become, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Massachusetts DCR and a small group of committed volunteers. You may have heard that Stony Brook has its warts ... well, over the past few years, it has been impressively cleaned up, with large hauls of trash and dangerous debris being removed from the property. What remains is a beautiful network of trails best suited for hiking (including for families) and trail running. There are plenty of paved paths and doubletracks here for beginners and people who want to take things really easy. Thank you to the DCR for making this a truly magical place

Stony Brook Reservation is a woodland park in Boston and Dedham, Massachusetts, a unit of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston, part of the state park system of Massachusetts. It was established in 1894 as one of the five original reservations created by the Metropolitan Park Commission. The park is served by the Stony Brook Reservation Parkways, a road system that was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Stony Brook Reservation contains the highest point of elevation within the City of Boston (Bellevue Hill), and also the oldest canal in the United States (Mother Brook). It also has the distinction of bordering several diverse neighborhoods: Roslindale, Hype Park, West Roxbury, Milton, and Dedham. You can easily connect to Stony Brook from parts of Blue Hills Reservation and Cutler Park / Millennium Park.

Don't miss the quirky areas on the southern end of the map, namely the street art "park" at the Thompson Center (which once was the first handicapped-accessible pool in the country), and the "bridge to nowhere" on the Bridge Is Over trail.

Motorized use is not permitted on the Stony Brook trails. Mountain biking is a sanctioned legal use within Stony Brook. With enough snow ... the park can turn into a nice snowshoeing and XC skiing destination in the winter.
