SaveAll the trails are machine groomed to about 16 feet to 18 feet wide, with classic tracks on one side and a wide skating lane on the other. All trail junctions are marked with a map and “letters” so you always know where you are and what direction you are going. Trails can be skied in either direction, so ski cautiously and courteously – don’t ski alone as there are no patrols Timberland West is a 2.5 Km lighted ski trail. This is a beginner type trail with gently rolling terrain. The lights come on automatically at dusk and go off at approximately 11:00 PM. This machine groomed trail is about 30′ wide with classic tracks around the perimeter and a wide skating lane down the middle.
The Cumberland Area Ski Touring Association (CASTA) has opened a new 4.4 mile groomed trail for a variety of winter recreational uses. The trail may be used for Fat Bike riding, Skijoring (cross-country skiing with a dog), snowshoeing, hiking, or skiing. This new trail is in addition to the 15.5 miles of cross-country ski trails at Timberland Hills. The expense of the new trail was funded in part by a grant from the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation to help promote nordic skiing and related activities for a healty and active lifestyle.
We also allow snowshoes on the ski trails – please be courteous and walk single-file on the far edge of the skating lane, away from the classic tracks. Bikes, dogs, and walking without snowshoes are only allowed on the Alternate Trail. These rules apply from December 1 to March 31, if the trail is snow covered. The trail is open for all non-motorized uses during the remainder of the year.
