Tyaughton Lake area is "home base" for much of the activities in the South Chilcotin Park, as well as access to the Mud lake/Relay region. Three public campgrounds serve the area: Mowson's Pond, Frieberg's, at Tyaughton Lake and Gun Creek Campground, at the outlet of Gun Creek at Carpenter Lake.

Tyax Lodge provides rooms, a bar and restaurant as well as a private campground on the lake.

Tyax Adventures is now at a new location at the east end of the lake. They operate a float plane, providing access to remote areas along with a series of camps in the South Chilcotin Park and guide services.

Local trails in the Tyaughton Lake area are generally sandy, with loose volcanic pumice stone layer just below the surface. Trails can get dusty after prolonged dry spells and ride best just after a rain. Higher elevation trails are less sandy and more compact dirt or rock.

NOTE: All trails are multi-use, in both directions. Bikers give way to hikers and horses. Ride with respect for the trail, the wilderness and other users. Please do not post times to the leader board - race safely against friends in bike parks, not Provinical Parks.

Bicycles and horses: Bikes give way to horseback riders for a number of reasons: A group of riders -often with packhorses - cannot always get off the trail for a mountain bike - please be patient and, f possible, go to the bottom side of a trail to give way - reason: horse(s) spooking uphill are easier to get under control than those bolting downhill). Remember animals DO NOT perceive what we do: In the horse’s mind, a mountain bike is reminiscent of a speedy silent predator coming at them. It is very important for cyclists to slow down, stop and SPEAK to the horse and rider. On hearing a human voice, most horses will calm quickly. Both horse and rider will appreciate your understanding. Mountain bikes can spook horses more than motor vehicles, because they are relatively quiet and can come upon them so suddenly, while motorized vehicles can be heard coming. Speed is seen to most animals as a threat or attack, this is why it is important to slow down and move over. Moving over (if possible) shows you are non-threatening.
