Trail Goldmine
They are not joking when they say the north side descent at the top is LOOSE and STEEP. I went surfing today on a wave of pebbles. Pucker factor intense!

I don't think this trail gets enough mountain bike love. It is the only proper challenge in San Tan Regional Park. The climb up from the south can be ridden the whole way, but it will test you. The ride down on the north side is terrific. Just wish the whole ordeal was a bit longer. I connect it with Dynamite trail for a quick little 45 minute mental break from my day.

Trail San Tan
In order to do most of the downhill sections when entering from the main entrance, the best way I’ve found is to ride this trail from the main gate counter clockwise (start at little leaf and head up) and then ride the San tan trail all the way around to hedgehog. Ride hedgehog back to the southeast side of San Tan Trail and take that south and wrap back around going passed hedgehog. Either go east on star gazer from there or ride San tan all the way around the north end where you started. Total travel distance is something like 9 or 10 miles.

Trail Goldmine
One of my favorite trails to hike and bike. Great way to build up endurance and climbing on the south side. The north side is a riot DH. Not recommended for beginners or intermediate riders as it is very chunky and loose. Since hardly anyone bikes either side a bike bell is recommended.

Love this short trail. It's a must ride out here and a great confidence builder for newer riders.
Pros: Can be ridden both directions. West to east from Moonlight to SanTan has a nice downhill section to end it.
Cons: A lot of horse traffic usually coming east to west so be careful and yield.

Trail Dynamite
Basic beginner rider check in: rocky, but on par for AZ and this park. Heck of a climb, but nothing that gets you scared for your life when your legs give out and you awkwardly hop off your saddle. Very chattery on the decent with a basic hard tail with a cheapo spring fork.

DO NOT RIDE THIS CLOCKWISE. I’ve ridden here many times often coming off of dynamite (north end) and dropping into San Tan heading south on the west side. If you do this clockwise all you get is a climb fest with very few enjoyable downhill sections. To make this the most fun take goldmine out of the parking lot, turning left onto San Tan and follow it around COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Much more fun and a lot more flowing downhill.

I just went down this trail again. Super fun trail! I have yet to climb it all the way on my bike,. I like to climb from the southside going down on the northside. Going down on the northside is probably 10 to 15 minutes, climbing on the southside is probably a 15 minute climb.

Both the front side and back side DH's are fun. The north side is really loose and SUPER steep at the very top. After that is is really fun and flowy. The south side is a riot at as well. On Strava is is named Crazy DH. Super fast speeds. Its over in about a minute but worth riding. Overall San Tan trails are VERY tame compared to AZ riding, but still very fun.

I prefer the back side (or south side) coming from Dynamite to San Tan then up Goldmine to the top. It's a heck of a climb and for most will include some HAB. However once at the top the ride back to the parking lot following that same route is excellent and my favorite in the valley. Goldmine is steep and rocky but it's a proper DH segment. Not too many places where you can get right at 1,000 vertical feet in 7 miles!
