The final Fiver of 2017. Presented by Steed Cycles.

New addition to the Fiver will be a Social Ride and Kids Ride. If you don't want to race, come on out and join for a ride.

Sing in for the Fiver will open at 10am to 11am at the Parking lot on Fromme.

Social Ride and Kids Ride will sign in at 10:45 in the Parking Lot on Fromme.

All Fiver and Social Riders need to be NSMBA members. Kids will not need to be member, but hopefully parents already are. Waiver will need to be signed for all Social and Kid's riders.

Social Ride is $5 same as the Fiver and gets you access to the apres at Steed.

Fiver course.

Stage 1) Crinkum Crankum - Kirkford - Cedar Trail - Upper Griffen

Transition climb Mtn Hwy up to 6th Switchback

Stage 2) Executioner - Ramble On

Transition climb D'yer Maker to Mtn Hwy, descend to Lower Oil Can

Stage 3) Lower Oilcan - BP - Lower Crippler - Breamer Trail

A word of caution Lower Crippler has some challenging bits on it, please ride within your limits. A pre-ride is a good idea if it's been some time since you last rode Lower Crippler.

Social Ride will be 7th - Expresso - Lower Expresso

Kids Ride will be Roadside Attraction and Bobsled.

Rode this west to east after exiting Expresso and holy crap this trail has some technical and challenging sections! Although there are some traversing sections on this trail that are blue in difficulty overall it's a black, a pretty difficult black at that. It's fun and challenging but if you are an intermediate rider this trail will eat you alive and you'll probably be walking a chunk of it.

You got it, it's the blackest blue trail on the shore! All I can say is you should have seen it 6 years ago. A few thousand hours over the last six years have gone into fixing up this section of trail. We haven't eliminated the gnar but there are some relatively smooth lines (albeit about 4" wide) through the rougher sections. This trail definitely helps folks progress!

A bit of a surprise, a fun surprise, but after a pretty mellow traverse from expresso the trail changes it’s vibe quite drastically! Be prepared to ride through like 10 rock gardens. Very well put together rock gardens, but somewhat twisty rock gardens nonetheless. Helps to know what to expect! That being said still a great way to get back to the parking lot.

Ridden many times...decided to finally post a comment lol. I really only use BP to ride back out to the Upper Parking Lot and the final descent once you get past Big Stupid is no joke. You can create and carry some ridiculously fun speed down here. Be careful though, as hikers regularly use BP, both ways. You CAN get down the final descent in about 1:30, but your hands will not like it.

How this is still rated a black diamond is beyond me. The endless switchbacks are a waste of good vertical that the old trail had in spades.

A decent but challenging traverse trail back from Espresso. Some of the steeps could be made a bit more ridable. The large rock gardens will be dangerous for many riders if it's wet. Only worth riding west to east.

I can understand arguments for not being double black, but logically to me that would push the rating of a lot of fromme trails down to blue (floppy bunny, kirkford, krinkum, expresso all come to mind).

Definitely one to practice and learn the lines on.

Most of the trails on Fromme have been uprated to eliminate all of the real hard trails. Espresso is not a black, neither is Kirkford, Crinkum, Oilcan or a host of others....sadly those that have the rating of black or double black and actually are are WAY beyond what most new riders think a black is. Lower Skull comes to mind, as does Bookwus, Grannies, Upper Crippler and Dirt Diggler (most don't ride it anymore...props if you know where it is...)

Agree with the comments here -- this is by far the blackest blue trail anywhere on the North Shore. It tends to get pretty beaten up as well, and can get super-gnarly. There are several corners on the downhill section going East towards Mtn Highway (from Espresso / Pipeline, etc.), that are essentially steep rock gardens, and pretty slippery especially when they're wet. Not to mention the beginning of the downhill section... the mandatory steep ladder onto steep rock garden, with a slight left turn at the bottom, would be pretty intimidating, even for a black trail.

Great blue tech trail, if you have done trails like bobsled and your wondering what some rocks and roots feel like I would recommend this trail as its kinda XC and not too steep but still lots of fun. Just be weary of going to middle griffen as it isnt in that good of condition now a days and has some very tight corners and even a non-roll drop(which you dont usually see on blue trails but is clearly indicated by the huge amount of scrape marks from people's gears and pedals). I would recommend taking a right and going down king of the shore if you are a more beginner rider.

This trail is a super fun finisher if you are parked on Braemar Road. A wooden A-frame feature, fun rock rolls, a soon-to-be-finished rollercoaster which looks amazing, a couple jaunty little skinnies on the lower half. Or, bike the first half of Lower Crippler and then cut over to Lower Digger on St. Mary's Trail to finish the day off with some jumpy flow.

Easier than Pipeline, but harder than 7th Secret. IMO not that great of a trail other than the two gap jumps, when compared to Pipeline. Lots of technical sections that just didn't feel that fun compared to what's on Pipeline. Still a fun trail though.

Similar to many of the comments above I took this trail as a connector from Expresso. This trail did surprise me as due to the rock paths they have created (I think for hikers) it is actually pretty challenging, definitely harder than Expresso in my view.

Rode this trail after trying Expresso the 2nd time. Was very technical for me but was really fun. Walked most of the uphill part and some sketchy descent. You just have to be mindful since a lot of hikers are on this trail as well. Will definitely try again this weekend after pipeline or expresso.

This is NOT a blue trail; it should be marked as black diamond. I ride blue trails almost exclusively with couple black ones thrown in, and this one is by far the hardest I've done. There are some "black" trail in Squamish and Seymour that are easier than this one.

Took the trail to go back to the parking lot after Espresso and I can safely say that this trail is significantly harder. Super steep rocky climbs lead to super steep rocky descents. The descents are really fun though.

Just a heads up all. There’s a significant amount of broken glass spread out on Kirkford beginning approx 20 feet after the initial wood roll-in. I’d like to think it wasn’t intentional but it came in a variety of colours and spread quite neatly.

Yeah, that was the blackest blue I've ever ridden. However, I had a great time rolling those steps and re enforced stone descents back to parking. Great trail in its own right.

Sure. Doesn’t matter to me dude. I’m just saying it’s a great effort they did to turn this into a climbing trail. It is seriously kickass and a great xc climb option on fromme. Nobody cares that it used to be a DH trail - there are millions of better ones. People don’t ride this down anymore so your comment just seems like you’re tryig to undermine the work to turn this into a climb trail.
