2017 IES Jug Mountain Enduro (Pro / Expert / Sport)

The third race of the 2017 Idaho Enduro Series is set to take place at Jug Mountain Ranch. The race course will consist of 6 timed stages featuring close to 3500ft of climbing / descending over approximately 14 miles. Each transition is approximately 580ft of ascent on the South Boundary Trail, not including short climbs within each segment.

It is the riders responsibility to know the course and the transition stages. ALL CLIMBING will take place on the "South Boundary Trail", which originates at the upper parking lot and continues past the end of Berm & Ernie trail, up towards Jug Mountain Lookout (for stages 1,4,5,&6). Continue past the end of South Boundary Trail to the shortcut connector (mainline) to access the start of stage 2 (Vandelay).

Please watch for racers finishing their stages on Exfoliator AND Berm and Ernie while transitioning up the South Boundary trail. Please give them time and stay to the far right of the trail.

Stage 3 and 4 Transitions will CROSS a section of stage 6. ALL RIDERS ARE REQUIRED TO STOP at this point and ONLY proceed when no racers are coming down stage 6. Please look up to the left and ensure NO RACERS ARE COMING DOWN. Proceed ONLY when clear.

Absolutely NO CLIMBING will take place on the lower mainline trail.

Race Overview:

Stage 1:

Double Shot > Exfoliator

The most technical stage right off the bat! Riders will proceed down the black diamond trail, Double Shot. The top part of the trail features technical rock gardens and a few rock drops. Can you boost the big boulder or you play it safe with the roll down? Riders will proceed in to the woods through a few more rock gardens before the trail really opens up and you can feeeeel the need for speed! Open it up and rally the berms before the end of upper Double Shot. Riders will make a hard LEFT HAND TURN on the mid mountain single track and pedal hard towards the start of Exfoliator trail. The crowd will be out in force to watch riders tackle this classic freeride trail with doubles, drops, berms and the famous log jump! Please take caution timing out on this stage and the road is VERY loose!

Stage 2:

This will be a thigh burner! Enter the pain cave on this pedally, long stage. One of the flatter stages, with a few punch climbs will be waiting for riders. There are plenty of wide open, fast sections as well! Bike handling will be key as riders face off camber corners, rock gardens, and tricky tight corners! At the completion of Stage 2, riders will transfer up rolling rock towards Stitches. Riders are not allowed to head to the parking lot after this stage as the mainline trail will be CLOSED.

Stage 3:

Jug Mts OG downhill track! The shortest stage of the race will be an exciting one, with plenty of optional lines to choose from. Play it safe or hit the features to make up time, the choice is yours!!! Steep rock rollers, ladders, tables will face riders along the way. Who wants to hit the famous road gap!? The end of the stage will be approximately half way up the hill after the last jump and slight left hand turn. This will allow riders to coast to a stop and safely time out. Riders will transition on the North Elk Hiking Trail towards the upper parking lot.

Stage 4:

Doe Joe > Rolling Rock

If you thought stage 2 was painful, get ready for round 2!! Riders will start on the brand new Doe Joe flow trail, featuring tight berms and short pedally sections. Plenty of turns are to be had on this upper section! There are also some optional lines on this trail, which line is faster? At the end of Doe Joe, riders will continue with a RIGHT HAND turn on the mid mountain double track, with their eyes set on rolling rock. Please continue cautiously down the double track trail as it is very loose and watch the fast right hander on the road!! Riders will then CROSS the mainline trail and make their first left, which is the start of Rolling Rock trail. More berms and fast sections await riders! Cross the first road and keep going, it's not over yet! The end will be right before riders get to the North Elk Hiking trail.

Stage 5:

Berm & Ernie

Idahos premier flow trail! It doesn't get much better than this! This is a proper flow trail with awesome berms, rock gardens, pump sections and jumps. It opens up towards the bottom, how fast can you fly through the forest and rally that last berm before the finish line??? Riders are welcome to grab a quick drink in the parking lot before heading back up the south boundary transition.

Stage 6:

Double Shot to Clubhouse

It all comes down to this! Have you had a clean race so far? No dropped chains, flat tires, or distractions from hot spectators? Leave it all out there! Riders will repeat the upper part of Double Shot to the mid mountain trail. Riders will then continue STRAIGHT across the road on to lower double shot. This is a fast, off camber, chundary section of trail. Open it up, you are almost there! Continue straight across the second road and continue to pedal!!! Towards the end of Double Shot. riders should WATCH for a slight right hand turn on to the clubhouse connector trail. It's pretty flat, so we hope you have some energy saved up! Hammer the pedals again and be careful on the uphill left hand turn just FEET away from the end of the race. The crowd will be out in full force, time out and grab some beer! (if 21 of course)
