2016 Pierre's Hole Race Course Details (2017 Details will be updated ASAP)

The course will have the start/finish just off the Main Plaza at Grand Targhee Resort. The course will be marked with blue directional arrows and course tape, starting August 1. The course’s first lap is 29.5 miles long with an estimated 4,019′ of climbing. The first lap will begin on the Powder Reserve Traverse dirt road from the start; remaining laps will use Action Jackson Trail, named in memory of local athlete & Pierre’s Hole champion AJ Linnell. Laps 2 and 3 are 34 miles with 4241′ of climbing per lap.

1st Lap – Ride from the Grand Targhee Resort’s Main Plaza up the Powder Reserve Traverse dirt road towards Peaked Mountain. Make a left turn on to the Peaked Trail. Climb Peaked Trail to the long descent down the 38 Special Trail. From 38 Special Trail, continue your decent down the Mill Creek Trail until the intersection of Cold Springs Trail, turn right. Ascend back to the upper section of Ski Hill Road and Grand Targhee Resort, turn left on the road just prior to the Grand Targhee Resort’s front gate (Parking Lot 5). Look for the marked access on to the Jolly Green Giants Trail. Ride Jolly Green Giants to Green Horn Trail and follow event course markings leading to the bottom of the Shoshone Lift area. Ride up the Shoshone service road under the flyover, then take a left turn on to the Pika Trail that leads to the Rick’s Basin Trails. Ride the Rick’s Basin Trails loop counter clockwise: More Cow Bell to Perma-Grin to Rick’s Basin, then North Woods, and finally Quakie Ridge. The end of the lap rides around Snowdrift and across Pika Traverse to the new Yogi Trail which finishes with a ride over the flyover and a short climb to the Start/Finish Area.

2nd & 3rd lap – Leave the Start/Finish area out the Action Jackson Trail to Buffalo Soldier. After this quick loop with incredible views of the Teton Mountains, start the primary ascent up Peaked Trail; climb up the Peaked Trail and continue up the Ain’t Life Grand Loop, and descend down the 38 Special Trail. From 38 Special Trail continue your descend down the Mill Creek Trail until the intersection of Cold Springs Trail, turn right. Aid/Feed Stations – There will be 2 feed zones and 1 water station along the course. Feed #1 is located at the bottom of the Shoshone Lift/Music Venue @ mile 16.9 for the first lap and mile 21.5 for laps 2 & 3. Feed #2 is located just before the Start/Finish at the top of the Music Venue @ mile 34 of a full lap. Racers can drop off coolers and bags at each Aid/Feed Station before they race, both aid stations are only a few hundred feet from the Start/Finish area.

Feed #1 – (water station) End of Cold springs trail at intersection of Ski Hill Rd.
Feed #2- just before the flyover heading out to Rick’s basin.
Feed #3- just before the race finish line.

2017 Pierre's Hole Lap 2 & 3 is a 35 mile intermediate race route located near Alta Wyoming. This mountain bike only route can be used one direction and has a hard overall physical rating. This route climbs 4,535 ft with a max elevation of 9,147 ft then descends -4,554 ft.
