Pylon to the junction with upswing is steep and rocky.

Technical features don’t only define the difficulty of trails @deester. Factors like width of the bench and corridor, gradient, steepness of short sections and exposure on outside of trail go into the mix when grading a trail. Take a beginner who is comfortable on genuine G2 like Magic Carpet and it’s a step up.

Trail Upswing
Luckily for all the benefactors this is probably the best climbing trail in Wellington

Trail Sally Alley
The revised version of Sally Ally is an uncanny ride, where the perfectly-groomed machine-dug trail seems inexplicably cambered and determined to throw you into the abyss. It is a truly soulless trail. I expect that it will wear in over the next few years to be much better. Watch this space.

Fine if you like flow trails - very little technicality. Can get some decent speeds up.

Trail Upswing
Pretty easy non-technical path that heads towards the top of Makara Hill. Very impressive bridge!

Trail Sally Alley
Rebuilt last section has smoothed out all technical sections. Disappointing after what it used to be like. There was a slip I believe but did the whole section have to be flattened?

Trail Aratihi
First section from pylon is a really good rocky climb. Part after it joins the Upswing trail is pretty featureless non-technical path that meanders up the hill. The vehicle track gets you to the top far more quickly.

Have to say that this is never a blue/intermediate trail - I can't remember one single technical feature on it. Definitely a green trail in my opinion.

Open again, flowing well now! Dry, with some loose material in the bottom of the resculpted corners. Definitely a faster ride than before the recent maintenance.

Great trail! Good for bikers looking to move up from green to blue trails! Not many steep climbs and descents and fairly flat. Definetly one of my favorite Makara trails and the views are stunning!

Good trail. Easy to ride fast . No technical features other than a couple wood bridges and some high berms.

Very nice flow trail you can carry lots of speed. Not a very difficult trail. Some areas are a little beaten up.

Pretty beaten up at the moment - dislodged rocks and potholes in a few spots. Keeps you on your toes.
