A mass start sends you straight up the wide farm road towards the Skills Park (1st lap only). Take a left turn into Aeroplane, another wide trail enabling the field to spread out before descending Rock Bottom. RB is an all time favourite at HVAP with 4 bridge crossings and a series of flowing turns, a true highlight of the 16km course. Once at the bottom shift into the big ring and lean into the turns along the flat cow pad before selecting an easier gear to spin up the Escalator climb.
At the top brings you to Pit-Lane, crossing the Timing Mat registering the first short lap, now you can either grab a feed to re-fuel or make that quick transition. Continue to weave your way through Pit-Lane before going Up and Over the timber bridge to climb ‘Gully’. Exiting onto the road and peaking at the Skills Park head right into Dodgem, a short descent before leaning into a large berm sending you back towards Western Creek – crossing the road and following the creek all the way to the Dinner Camp checkpoint.
You’ll hear the music echoing off the banks as you cross the creek and grid into the Dinner Camp. Top up your bottle here or continue to negotiate your way around the round-about before an easy climb up the newly constructed Fairy Wren trail.
At the top is where the FUN begins – enter Plane Sailing and follow this flowing trail all the way back to Race HQ – yes – there’s berms and yeah it’s fast! Teams can transition before heading back down into Snake (8.4km into course). Descend Snake – hold on tight – it’s a little rough before winding up another brand new trail, ‘Juiced’ where you exit, turn tight left back towards Rock Bottom. Repeat this for 4 to 24hrs!
