This is a Pisgah blue. There are some steep areas that can catch you off guard and a couple of water crossings. If it’s wet, I could see the switchback areas sending you off into Poison Oak land

Is this just a gravel road open to cars and other traffic?

This access road takes you from equestrian parking area to a single track. It is a shared trail for the Mountains to the Sea trail. Follow the white circles (MTS) and the orange diamonds (Woods Mountain). After 9/10's of a mile, you'll see the road continues on to the left/south but the singletrack starts in this bend, bear right here to get on some lovely singletrack

This section of single track is lovely dark & deep, rhododendron covered and drops down to Tom's Creek. The creek blew out during the heavy rains summer of 2018 and the crossing has been rerouted. After crossing the creek, Tom's River gravel access runs north/south and is your entry to the Woods Mountain Loop.
