I rode it north to south and it was a great ride. Took me 6.5 hours (including half an hour total for snacks) so you need to be decently fit. The climbing was not nearly as hard as I anticipated -- if you are used to climbing the technical trails at South Mountain then these climbs will be a breeze. 2.5 liters of water was enough for me. I only saw three hikers on a Friday in December.

Trail description is spot on. Many steep ups and downs with tight turns and loose scree but mostly rideable.

Tough ride. Good fitness required. A fair bit of hike-a-bike. This trail is a bit of a conundrum. If you look at the elevation graph, the initial climb is no problem. The descent has punchy hike-a-bike climbs peppered in it which is disappointing. The flat bit is not so flat. Ensure a good supply of liquid and snacks. Do this ride in the cooler months.

Take the average ride time (I saw 4:53) as wildly optimistic. Budget 6-8 hours. This ride really stretches much water you need to carry. Full Camelbaks and bottles were not enough. Seriously consider filtering water out of the Gila River at mile 21 as the last 16 miles take longer than you think.
