Climb is technical but enjoyable; it will really test your power and balance. The descent is puckering for a few short sections and then mellows out into some red dirt flow. Expect big, steep, chunky lines on the descent portion.

I’m an Intermediate rider and this was a tough trail for me. Had to walk a few sections on the uphill and downhill. Definitely earns a black label. Views are great though.

This trail is a blast! As with a lot of Sedona, momentum is your friend and as you twist and turn downhill get ready for rolls, jumps, and a drop. Combine this with all the Hog trails and in my opinion becomes epic.

I enjoyed it and hated it at the same time! Enjoyed it because the views are insane! Hated it because too much hike a bike for an intermediate rider like me. I fell twice on the technical gnarly DH sections. I guess you’ll enjoy the trail if you are good at technical climbs with rocks everywhere. I’m not.

I’d say it’s on par in difficulty with high on the hog. If that deserves double black this should as well.

If you're on the fence about riding this trail, ride a couple of the blacks (slim shady or made in shade). If you can ride those pretty comfortably then you can do the majority of hiline. I rode it solo and I think I'm an advanced-intermediate rider, however I walked down most of the super steep stuff at the end. But up to that point it was a blast. Exposure wasn't as bad as I expected, definitely some scary sections but it was never a straight drop, if you fell you'd probably be able to grab a tree (or ). Watch some videos to get an idea of what it's like.

Beautiful trail with amazing views. I don't agree with the blue rating, either this needs to be black or Aerie, Cockscomb, Rupp, Girdner, Chuckwagon need to be green because there's a very clear jump in difficulty. Quite a bit of technical climbing and exposure.

Super fun! First time trying it was 18 miles into a westsiiiide XC ride with 15-20 mph winds (extra spicy!), very similar to Hogwash in difficulty, the janky rock rolls on the south end are not as bad as they look.

I rode this trail, am an intermediate biker and the lower part of Aerie was a fun and flow-y section with just a few rocks and some nice flow. Make sure to ride from Cockscomb for the downhill part.

Rode this a couple of times recently. Was my first trip to Sedona.

Fun trail. Scenic. Challenging climb. The descent is Squamish green until the end, then it becomes Squamish blue

This is my first commentary in Trailforks. I'm an older, advanced female rider. And this trail deserves my two cents. First, oh yes it is a double all day if you rode the whole trail. There are ample opportunities to f-up. The challenge is well worth it for the massive accomplishment anyone will feel afterwards.

Started out from the entrance just north of Bike and Bean and rode it S to N. Challenging uphill and a blast to ride the downhill parts. I’m an intermediate biker and rode with my wife, who hasn’t ridden a lot of technical stuff. She managed to clear a large portion of the downhill stuff, but we both hike and biked a few of the uphill stuff. Had a blast. There’s a sign at the Templeton junction that advises Slim is one way only from that point south. So don’t try riding that way and hoping you’ll hop on it and ride back down south.

Excellent intermediate trail with something for almost any rider. An experienced rider could push themselves on this, and a rider getting getting used to technical blue rocky trails won't be too intimidated by most of it. As everyone else says, there are expansive views from the ridge that are awe inspiring.

What this guy's said. All you're doing by sandbagging folks and saying it's not a double black, is clogging up the trail with more beginners, who will be HAB most of the fun parts. In Sedona, this is certainly a dbl black. Boast to your friends if you have any, or Facebook, not on trailforks. No one cares how much you supposedly shred on here.

One of my favorite intermediate trails in Sedona. Starting NE and riding SW offers a good workout going mostly uphill over some nice, tacky hardpack with some short technical sections here and there to get you warmed up. When you get to the upper part it really gets fun -- lots of quick, flowy twisty descents with technical sections to keep you on your toes. Oh yeah, and there's the views -- Bear Mtn across the valley is a great backdrop. Enjoy

Rode Adobe from the parking lot straight to Soldier pass intersection. The beginning of the trail has some technical climbs and drops that might required a little push. After a quarter mile, trail gets flowy and fun. Along the way you have some impressive views, make sure you stop for that memory pic. Soldier pass is the destination

A super fun trail with some good jumps of no consequences if one doesn’t hit them perfectly. It’s a good way to wrap up the other hog trails before heading back to the trailhead. It would also be fun to run laps using Precary for the ascent.

This trail is only worth riding for the aesthetics. The trail is an intermediate (at best) and marked as such by the signs around the route. There are a few short punchy climbs but otherwise it’s unremarkable. Unless you are looking to take an inexperienced rider on a visually appealing trail, its not worth it.

A steady climb / traverse for the first mile or two before reaching good elevation and some stunning views. The trail comes to a view point over both sides of the hill and it's quite hard to see where you go from here, I had to check GPS.
After this point you start to descend and it's fun until you hit the super steep rock sections that had a lot of loose dry dirt on, too much risk versus reward for me on a solo ride so I walked it. After this the trail gains some flow again and it feels good to be on more forgiving ground!

A good trail to tick off the list but it is quite natural and risky in places, not many places to land a helicopter up there for medivac either. Bare that in mind.

A good trail to tick off the list

Do you know the secret inside joke about Hiline? You are supposed to say it's awesome; that it's difficult but all rideable; a little steep, but not too bad. If you comment otherwise, someone will reply to your comment with a comment of their own and say that you just suck at mountain biking. So there you have it. Now you know the inside joke. The locals meet up for drinks and rate this trail high, to keep out-of-towners off of the good trails. Don't get me wrong -there are some really fun sections with amazing views. However, at least 42% of this loop (Hiline, Templeton) requires hiking a bike. The other 3 hours were on the bike, off the bike, on the bike, off the bike. I wouldn't consider myself a bad rider either -but half the trail is absolutely gnarly with huge consequences for failure. If you are someone that likes sessioning extremely difficult downhill rocky sections, you might enjoy hiline. If you are an advanced rider just looking for a good ride, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I think we need to remember that a big reason for these comment sections is to help out our fellow MTBers make decisions on what to ride or not to ride. To all those saying it’s not so bad, it’s not a double black, easily walkable, etc are doing the largest percentage of bikers a disservice. If you’re an experienced DH guy rocking your sick new enduro, sure go for it. But for the vast majority of riders, your 1-2 day a week weekend warriors, have no business being on this trail unless serious exposure and HAB is your thing. The climb is very techy and the last series of downhills are anything but rideable for all but the most experienced riders...and are even a very difficult HAB. For most riders, there are so many other trails in Sedona on which your time is better spent. This is one of the few double blacks in Sedona for a reason.

This is an incredibly fun and easy climb for what you get going down Grand Central or Javelina. If you can put down some watts, you can go 15 mph+ on the last portion of the climb! Also, the flow and short techy bits would make a spectacular DH in itself. Woooohoooo.

Great trail, the steep rocky chutes at the end definitely make it deserving of a double black but are a lot of fun if you have a slack bike and the skills necessary. The first part of the downhill is fast and a lot of fun too. Uphill is technically challeo and I wasn't for enough to clean everything.

First third is pretty blown out exposing some intermediate jank, some with exposure. Had my kids walk a few sections for sure. Really fun trail. Great chunky climb in the beginning. Then you can catch your breath on the traverse. Just a couple sections were exposure is an issue, but keep your eyes forward and you'll be fine. The descent was awesome. Super chunky. Riding this trail blind was a blast. The descent is the only double black portion. Speed is your friend if your an experienced rider. I just tried to float the rocks and cleared it pretty easily. Baldwin was a blast too when turning this into a loop. Heads up.. there's usually a group walking lines or hanging out on top of the descent. I gave a couple polite hollers and they let me through. Looking forward to making an even bigger loop with this one in a few days.

It's a bummer that this one is so short - it's a fun semi-technical route that has some nice flowing sections and decent scenery. Spectular views all the way to the top from the northside...some definite, short HAB sections that switchback into loose, chute-like, sketchy sections on the southside that experts will enjoy and are at least walkable to the rest of us. In general, lots of exposure on a bench cut... overall tight singletrack with punchy ups and downs that demand attention, generates the expected adrenaline rush, and delivers the "Sedona euphoria" that defines a "thrill skeekers delight" paired with reasonable risk most will relish✌️

Similar in style and difficulty to Girdner. Pretty steady climb out if you ride it north to south. I rode Girdner up and cut across at the new Rover trail (completed today) which cut out some of the climb out. Fun trail if you are already riding in the area, not one that I would personally seek out.

Really great trail, a bit of a grunt of a climb initially but not too bad then the trail opens up to go around the inside of a fab red rock structure. Nothing super hard. Great views and a great fun trail.

Trail Roundabout
Good warmup with nice views. If ridden clockwise it's intermediate until Remnant trail...then smooths out for panaromic vistas of the major geologic icons of Sedona...wish it was another couple miles so it could be looped a few times for a recovery ride on easier singletrack with some nice flow.

Great trail. Challenging sections on climb and the steep drop requires a slacked out trail bike or high skill. Great views.
A must do.

Gave it a 3 as it’s just slow Tech and you’ll have about a total of 10 seconds of flow the whole time. I’d skip next time.

Good warm-up/Sedona intro ride if it's your first time here. A little bit of everything: slick rock tech, cornering over loose rock and the infamous Sedona 'dirt'. More intermediate/blue with a few challenging slick rock techy sections.

Trail Adobe Jack
Rode it from red to green after going from Devil's Kitchen >> Jordan >> Javelina and was pleasantly surprised by the speed and flow in this direction. I was expecting to "climb" back up to Soldier's Pass but it's one of those trails where you don't really feel the elevation gain because it's up and down with good flow the whole way. Definitely intermediate and definitely a fun rip in either direction.

Super fun rip in the indicated direction (Yavapai Point >> HWY179) with nice flow especially towards the end. More of a 'blue' trail IMHO.

Trail Hiline
This trail has become reasonably popular with hikers, so be heads up especially on the weekends. As noted above the trail is 90%+ doable for "average" riders who are comfortable with the exposure, and imo, the exposure is worst where the trail is easiest. Only the last ~1/4 mile will have the majority of riders walking.

A must if you're in the area. kinda black, but nothing gnarly so more like a blue with a few feet of technical single moves then carry on with some fun riding in beautiful terrain.

The rocky section that I see people complaining about is fun as hell and rewards the fitness to ride a few gears down from granny. Riding South to North is the fun rocky climb, then rolling until getting a nice quick descent to Cockscomb. At that point the trail completely changes attitude and becomes a roller coaster of tight natural berms and rollers. I have ridden this each time I've come to Sedona, ofyen in both directions.

like everyone says. Start at Slim Shady. One of the most gratifying climbs for being a challenge but every section is rideable... you just gotta focus. From the climb's summit until dropping in to the final descent the trail is just fun and beautiful. For 99% of riders I think they'd talk about how much of the descent they could ride, not how fast or anything. Piecing together what you're comfortable riding and adding a bit more each time you ride this trail is probably a common strategy... and that day you're totally feel it you might get all but one section that I need to see someone ride to figure out the line. one of my top ten favorite trails anywhere!

I love this trail. I think it is overlooked because it is "just the way to Hiline" but it stands alone as a good welcome to twisty goodness in both directions. Getting a bit blasted and widened in spots from the sheer volume of users but still great.

The western end suuucks. Just endless rocks on the trail with no rhyme or reason, especially bad if you're trying to climb it. The eastern half is much smoother, great views as well.

Beautiful trail. Like I've seen mentioned, the blazes on the downhill are guides, not necessarily the best line. Tough part of the climb isn't long. Middle traverse really is beautiful. Not much true exposure; just keep your eyes on the trail! Down hill portion has a handful of techy spots that explain the double diamond rating. A little dusty but not bad. I rode some of those and got to save some for next time : )

Over the edge recommended this trail to start out with and we very pleased! After riding for a week straight in Sedona I’d say that this trail is the most fun. Perhaps a double black in spots but I thought it had great flow and the steeps added some great thrill. Totally rideable, so much traction on the rocks and dirt here.

Gnarly climb on the ridge for good first third. Some spots are 12inch from the edge, so if you don't like heights then don't take it. Techy climb indeed. The downhill is definitely worth the climb/walk up, though. Views are amazing!

Suggest merging this with "To Mescal" as it really is just one trail. The map is confusing as-is.
