This route is difficult downhill riding. The section of Chris Flat and Bear Canyon are somewhere between expert and double diamond in places. No big drops, but very very loose, especially on the ridge.

This is a local favorite loop to do after work and chase the light on some of the more technical trails in American Fork Canyon. This route is a shuttle from either the fork or Mutual Dell.

It starts off with some fun up and fast downs along the Ridge 157 Trail. There are some little short climbs to give you some cardio and get you warmed up. Instead of the typical run down Mud or Tibble, you hang a left at the Pine Hollow fork and drop down. This is more of a fast flowing trail that is mostly buff singletrack and a fast splashy creek crossing. Continue on Salamander Flat with some more fast singletrack through pine trees and some great views of the back of Timp, then punch it to Timpooneke where you can refill your bottle or get a drink.

Now there is a slow grind up a bit of single track but mostly dirt road. If you are really doing this in the evening, this is where you have to make a decision based upon the time of year and how much light you have left. If the sun is going down fast, you can immediately drop down the Bear Canyon Spur #178 to Bear Canyon and enjoy some of the best technical downhill AFC has to offer. If you have some time to go, continue up the road to the campsite turn-off and grind up the singletrack to Julie Andrews Meadow. From there you will rip down the baby head infested part of Chris Flat and drop down the spur trail to Bear Canyon.
