I don’t think climbing on this trail is a bad as its reputation. It does have one tight steep squeeze that I had to hike-a-bike. Access on Middle Hawes is way worse.

Note: the current trail sign at Red Mtn Rush/Goat intersection shows Lower Gidro, not Cactus Garden, in case you are looking for it starting from the ridge. Head down Lower Gidro and stay left at the fork to hit Cactus Garden.

Super difficult as a climb, mostly hike a bike for me. But it was over pretty quickly and then you’re right at the top of the ridge

Very fun Blue/Black trail fast finish. High quality to hone skills for tougher Blacks like Iron GOAT and NRA and Sunset Ridge

Fun trail, flowy and fast. will make you wish you worked on your switchbacks more! Black rating is probably a little overkill - it's got some steep sections, but not much for technical moves.

Rode N to S. Super fun! It's called cactus garden for a reason. Be careful.

Smooth for a black, will probably get a bit more smooth with more people riding. Road at night, good view of the city. Nice areas 2/3 the way through to zone out, let the gong go off in your head, birds chirping, pump a little here, a little there, and just shred

Fun trail, with a good of loop to do laps of. Definitely would call it a blue though. Would be nice if they built some more difficult features as alternative lines. Also watch out for the runoff ditches towards the bottom, they're pretty deep and can buck you if your carrying speed.

Yeah should probably be a blue. Easier than the other black trails in the area.

Love this trail, my only complaint is the switchbacks they put in part way down, would have been cool if they had a "more difficult" bypass section which was steeper downhill.

Only reason to ride this is as a connection for a loop or to access other trails, imho. Loose, super steep.

Fun trail. A lot smoother than other black trails in the area. Maybe the exposure adds to the difficulty rating? I look forward to riding it again.

It’s challenging from either direction. The skinny trail makes it difficult to maintain momentum on the steep climbs, especially West to East at the rutted sections to the top; people brake pretty hard coming down that section. A strong intermediate rider could do the majority of it with fresh legs, but until a lift to the top is installed, the only way to get there is to climb the preceding black trails.

As a non-resident can you get in / out of the community on a bike to access this trail?

Agreed on riding this downhill from goat. It’s burly the other way. The view from this trail is killer.

I've only ridden down this, don't think I'd want to pedal up. My suggestion is to do a big loop around Wild Horse and come up the back side, it's mostly reasonable climbing although there's some HAB (for me) on Goat Trail. It's a ripping descent that continues into the lower system.

Regardless of direction, you’ll be pushing your bike a bit on this, but not a whole lot.
