Did this as a climb up to Mine trail. Pretty easy climb for the most part. A couple loose sandy sections to pedal through.

After the massive thunderstorm this week be careful. Patches of sand, ruts and other unexpected changes. Fun to ride, a different challenge!

Very flowy. Not too much climb either way. Closer to a green than a blue imo

Update:
I’ve ridden this two more times with others who helped me with some line choices and encouragement. It’s a blast to get through those rocky rough spots now! Great trail to learn some new things and see some progression as a newer rider.

The East side of this trail is NOT flowy whatsoever, more of rocky, don’t fall to your death. At least for beginner riders trying to get into that intermediate blue trail scene. I couldn’t wait to reach Granite trail to actually be able to get on my bike again.

Started/ended our day on this trail. A good way to access Hawes from the west, and a great way to end it! Very float/fast going east to west.

Trail Lower Hawes
Finally a real mountain bike trail. The rocks have been cleared, berms are somewhat dug, lots of switchbacks and some really fun sections. I am tired of biking on hiking trails. The technical climbing was the funnest part but it kicked my butt. After about 6 little 20 foot climbs I was spent. I parked on the West end of this Hawes out and back trail. Coming from the 202 there was like 6 parking spaces on the left about a 1/2 mile before the trail on Powers Rd.

Super fun up with some neat techy climbs. A few sections leave the blue and fade into black but they are short and doable. I’m anxious to ride it again!

Fun little run after riding down mine. Definitely a green and you can really open the bike up and take a breather after conquering a gnarly DH run. This takes you back to the Bush highway across the street from the recreational area at the Salt River. You can enter the park through here as well.

Agree with Heylers as well. I love taking this trail into the park as it is a fun downhill with some punchy uphill sections and some great rock gardens to crawl over. Coming back up is a black and will test your leg stamina at the end of your ride.

Trail Saguaro
I don’t really rate this as a black, especially compared to Mine trail on the DH end. Saguaro is a great trek through this section. There are some wash crossings and one major DH section the runs you through a wash to a climb on the other end, but that is probably the most challenging part of the trail. Any intermediate could easily ride this with maybe a HAB or two, but definitely doable and fun.

Trail Wild Horse
Enjoyable trail. Great views. Easiest to go from East to west. It can be a part of a great green/blue loop by starting at Goldfield parking lot. Have to hoof it up a couple of miles on Usery Hwy but pretty wide bike lane. Then this stretch (Wild Horse) to Bush. Then go East 1 mile to Phon D Sutton. Then take trail to Coon Bluff horse parking, cross Coon Bluff road and take main trail back to Goldfield lot. 10.2 miles.

Intermediate rating but this is a little more difficult than many in the area with a black diamond rating. A fun ride with a few rock puzzles along the way to keep interesting. Nice climb makes it a good conditioning ride.

Trail Saguaro
I suspect this is a terrific challenge and rewarding ride for advanced riders. Unfortunately I am much more of an intermediate. Although the scenery and surrounding topography are exceptional, the ride is not for the meek. Upward Death Spiral, for example required a lot of walking for me. Good riders are able to do it in a few minutes but no way for guys like me. Wish I could. So probably won’t do it again but was happy to experience it. Narrow, hard rock, steep, and drop exposure which would not be fun taking the hard way. Physically demanding.

Agree with Heylers, Blue going down Black going up. I do recommend going up, that is North to South. This allows you to take Saddle down and Saguaro down, both of which are way more fun down than Hawes trail. If you want to see a video of a good loop including cardiac hill and all the sweet downs check out my YouTube channel www.youtube.com/channel/UCJQzuGTgnZGCp6Na9Ft3l2w

So what the heck happened to the parking at the trailhead at the top of the hill on Bush Highway?? I guess SRP decided to Scrooge everyone out of the parking which had been enjoyed by all for years when the fenced off the entire parking area. Where is everyone else parking now?

Start from 4 way splitter and head toward Power rd. Technical and flowy with a short climb toward the end. You kind of get the best of everything here. Beware of hikers going against the grain.
